Lisum, State Institute for School and Media Berlin-Brandenburg

The LISUM is an in-service teacher training institution for the educational region Berlin-Brandenburg (founded 01/2007). Its main tasks are: development of curricula; measures for the evalution and safeguarding of school and teaching quality; measures for the training of in-service teachers and the personnel of school adminstrations and school authorities; measures for the qualification of personnel working in the field of in-service training (concerning subject matters and administration).

Each year, the LISUM trains about 5000 teachers. A special task of the department of Teaching Development at the LISUM is the development of across-the-curriculum materials for poor readers. Furthermore, the LISUM participates in the German project "ProLesen" (ProRead) which focuses on concepts and materials for fostering reading literacy in all subjects (launched by the "Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs of the Länder in the Federal Republic of Germany").
